Stephen is an Associate in our London office, where he is part of the contracts and project advisory team. Stephen is qualified in Scotland, and specialises in providing sensible and commercial advice to clients on a wide variety of non-contentious development and project advisory issues for real estate developments, commercial property acquisitions and disposals, and associated financing arrangements.
Prior to joining Beale & Co in April 2025, Stephen worked at a silver circle law firm in their London office, and prior to this at an international law firm based in their Edinburgh office, in both cases specialising in a wide range of contracts and project advisory work throughout the UK and internationally.
Stephen has acted for developers, funders, high-net-worth private clients, purchasers, sellers, landlords, tenants, employers, contractors and consultants. He has advised on projects in a number of sectors, including commercial property, infrastructure, retail, education, hotel & leisure, logistics, residential, student accommodation, healthcare, food industry, national embassies and sports stadia.
He is experienced advising on standard forms of construction contract such as JCT, SBCC, NEC, RIBA and IChemE, bespoke construction contracts and ancillary forms, framework agreements and call-off contracts, professional appointments, sub-contracts, collateral warranties, third party rights, novation agreements, deeds of assignment, assignations, letters of reliance, parent company guarantees, bonds and other associated documentation, and he is familiar with drafting standard form documents, including precedent terms and conditions, schedules of amendment and consultant appointments. Stephen also provides construction specialist advice on related project documents, such as Development Funding Agreements, Forward Funding Agreements, Facility Agreements, Agreement for Lease, Licence for Alterations, Sale/Purchase Agreements, Share Purchase Agreements and Asset Purchase Agreements.
Stephen has a particular interest in legal technology and AI. He is passionate about using tech tools to deliver efficiencies and results for clients and the wider legal industry, with a track record of spearheading innovation in the legal technology space and experience working with clients to deliver tailored, forward-thinking solutions.
